Fantastic Sushi Roll Recipes

Sushi has been a staple to the Japanese diet for centuries but now sushi is becoming quite popular in western cultures. Sushi bars are popping up nearly everywhere and for a good reason, It’s delicious! Traditionally sushi is made with rice, fish, seaweed, and vegetables, but with a bit of creativity anything can be incorporated into a sushi roll. Below is a short list of some excellent sushi roll recipes that should be prepared in the usual way.

The California Roll

Start with the nori sheet and a half cup of sushi rice, wrap with one fourth avocado, one fourth of a cucumber, two crab sticks and 2 teaspoons of toasted sesame seeds. This popular roll is great for those just venturing in to sushi.

The Jazz Roll

For this wrap, start with a soy wrapper sheet and a cup of sushi rice. Use between two to four boiled shrimp (adjust quantity based on size), two pieces of asparagus, two crab sticks and a half of a tablespoon of mayonnaise.

The Philadelphia Roll

Begin with the nori sheet and a half of a cup of sushi rice, wrap in two ounces of raw salmon sashimi style, two tablespoons of cream cheese and two sticks of asparagus.

Spicy Tuna Roll

Wrap the nori sheet with a half cup of sushi rice, one ounce of raw tuna sashimi style, and a quarter of a teaspoon of mayonnaise.

The Spider Roll

Deep fried tempura soft shell crab (use four to six depending on size) that has been fried in either canola or peanut oil, a single crab stick, a quarter of a cucumber, and a pinch of chili powder all wrapped in a half of a cup of sushi rice in a single sheet of nori wrap.

Tempura Shrimp Roll

Deep fried in canola or peanut oil, start with three large tempura battered shrimp, wrapped alongside a quarter of an avocado and a quarter of a cucumber inside a single nori sheet and a half of a cup of sushi rice.

Sushi is exciting and fun. Even if choose not to use one of these recipes you can create your own with any meat or vegetables you prefer instead. The great thing about sushi is nearly anything can be incorporated into a sushi roll.
